White sand dunes, mangroves, greenish rivers and turquoise lagoons?
…probably a landscape that belongs to another world just discovered? Well, not really! But as the picture says a million words, so is our astonishment in front of a reality quite atypical and extremely amazing!
This is Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Brazil, in Maranhão State, on the river Preguiças. The park covers an area of 155 000 hectares, being a protected area. To reach the park, you can use the bus between São Luís and Barreirinhas, about 350 km, where you can find also accommodation.
The name of the area – ‘’Lençóis Maranhenses’’ means “sheets of Maranhão”, the abstract place where there are formed half-moon white sand dunes and where the sand is always in constant motion.
